What is the International Network for Ecopsychology?

The International Network for Ecopsychology is an international community for people interested in ecopsychology and the relationship between human wellbeing and the natural world. It encourages the exchange of research, ideas, publications, events and evidence-informed practice.

What is ecopsychology?

Ecopsychology explores the psychological relationship between human beings and the natural environment. It considers how nature can support health and wellbeing, how environmental change can affect individuals and communities, and how psychological knowledge may contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.

When was the Network founded?

The Network was founded by Professor Stephen Palmer in 2014. It was previously known as the Forum for Ecopsychology and also Ecopsychology and Wellbeing.

Who can join the Network?

The Network welcomes psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, coaches, healthcare and wellbeing practitioners, educators, researchers, students, environmental professionals and others with a serious interest in ecopsychology and the human–nature relationship.

Do I need a professional qualification to join?

No. The Network welcomes qualified professionals, students and people who are developing an interest in the field. Members should represent their qualifications, experience and professional status accurately.

Do I need to live in a particular country?

No. The Network has an international focus, and membership is open to interested individuals from around the world.

How can I join?

What are the benefits of joining?

Does membership provide professional accreditation?

No. Membership does not constitute accreditation, professional registration, certification or endorsement of a member’s qualifications, competence or services.

Does the Network regulate ecopsychology practitioners?

No. The Network is a professional-interest and knowledge-sharing community. It is not a statutory regulator and does not license or regulate practitioners. Members remain responsible for complying with the requirements of their own professions, employers and countries.

What subjects does the Network cover?

Topics may include nature connectedness, ecoanxiety, ecological grief, ecodepression, ecotherapy, green and blue exercise, forest bathing, outdoor and ecopsychology-informed coaching, climate psychology, planetary health, human–animal relationships, and other aspects of ecopsychology theory, research and practice.

Does the Network support research?

Yes. The Network encourages the dissemination and discussion of relevant research and supports the continuing development of ecopsychology in theory, research and practice. It also supports the peer-reviewed Journal of Ecopsychology.

Can I share research, publications or events?

Members may share relevant research, books, articles, calls for papers and events in accordance with the Network’s Community Guidelines. Contributions should be accurate, relevant and appropriately referenced. Promotional material should be proportionate and clearly identified.

Can the Network publish my research paper?

The Network may share suitable research news and resources, but formal academic manuscripts should be submitted to an appropriate journal. Authors interested in the Journal of Ecopsychology should consult the journal’s submission and peer-review guidance.

Does the website provide psychological or medical advice?
